Alabama Crimson Tide - Big Al
The Alabama Crimson Tide gained their name from a type of algal bloom that happens in the Gulf of Mexico. However, their mascot, Big Al is an elephant. The history of the name dates back to the 1930s when a sportswriter wrote that Alabama’s football team sounded like elephants when they ran onto the field before a game against Ole-Miss. |
