Columbus Schools Audit



COLUMBUS, Ohio - Columbus City Schools officials say the latest financial review by the state auditor indicates steps the district is taking to improve its accounting are paying dividends.

Of seven reportable findings noted in the audit of the 2008 fiscal year, just one of the conditions remain in the 2009 audit and officials say it has already been addressed.

“The district’s financial status is strong and this audit is proof that important management practices which have been put into place to improve systems of accountability are working,” said Board of Education Vice President Stephanie Groce, chair of the Audit and Accountability Committee.

A district spokeswoman said the reportable finding noted in the audit was the result of an individual building spending $17,232 more than allowed from the District’s $45.6 million allocation of federal funding.

The district has implemented changes to procedures to provide more detailed budgeting and monitoring, communications director Kim Norris said.
