COLUMBUS, Ohio - A man police say tried to intervene in a potentially violent confrontation is dead and his alleged murder is in jail after a shooting on the Northeast Side early Sunday morning.

Columbus police say Nelson Romine, 26, was upset because of a possible theft and was pointing a handgun at several people in a parking lot at 985 Joyce Avenue just after 2:30 AM.

Romine ordered a man to the ground and when Kenneth Jackson, 34, went to help, Romine allegedly shot him in the stomach, police said.
