Weekend Picks for July 3rd - 5th

Concerts
  • The Friday Summer Concert Series is at the Statehouse lawn from noon-1pm. This is free and will run every Friday through September 4th (except July 3rd). Visit www.OhioStatehouse.org for more details.
  • The Columbus Symphony Orchestra presents “Picnic with the Pops” featuring Patriotic Pops on the lawn of Chemical Abstract Services at 8:15pm. Tickets are $13-$22. Visit www.PicnicwiththePops.com for further details.
  • Catch Sundays at the Scioto concert series each Sunday at 7pm for a free concert at Scioto Park. Visit www.DublinArts.org for further details. This series runs through July 26th.
Theater/Arts
  • Otterbein Theatre presents “Don’t Talk to the Actors” at the Campus Center Theatre Friday & Saturday at 8pm, Sunday at 2pm. Tickets are $22. Visit www.Otterbein.edu/theatre for further details. This presentation will run through July 11th.
  • The Actors’ Theatre Company will present “The Tempest” at Schiller Park in German Village Thursday-Sunday at 8pm. This is a free performance! Visit www.TheActorsTheatre.org for further details.  This presentation will run through August 2nd.
  • Funny guys Lavell Crawford will headline The Funny Bone this weekend.  Call the Bone Phone at 471-JOKE or visit www.ColumbusFunnybone.com for tickets.
  • The Shadowbox presents “Best of Shadowbox 2009” at their theatre inside Easton Town Center every Friday and Saturday at 7:30PM & 10:30PM. Visit www.ShadowboxCabaret.com for more information. Tickets are $30.   This show will run through August 29th
Festivals & Expos
  • BEAT personal Training in Bexley (2152 East main Street) will offer a self-defense boot camp session at 10am & 2pm on Saturday. Course fee is $18. Visit www.BEATPersonalTraining.com for more details. These will run each Saturday through July 25th (except July 4th).
  • The Pearl Market at Pearl Alley downtown is open Fridays from 10:30am-2pm every Friday through October 30th. This is a free event! Visit www.DowntownColumbus.com/PearlMarket for further information.
  • Soul! Art from the National Afro-American Museum & Cultural Center will be on display at the Ohio Historical Society through February 28th. Admission is $4-$8. Visit www.OhioHistrory.org for more information.
  • Franklin Park Conservatory presents the hugely popular “Blooms & Butterflies” exhibit running through September 7th. Another popular exhibit “Chihuly Reimagined” will also be running through March 28th, 2010. Admission is $4-$7.50. Visit www.FPConservatory.org for further information.
Holiday

  • The Ohio Village will host “A Glorious Fourth” Saturday between noon-5pm. This features a grand procession, patriotic speeches, a concert by the Ohio Village Singers and a greased pole contest. Admission is $9-$12. Visit www.OhioHistory.org for more information.
  • The Marching Castros and Roller Derby in the Streets is a part of the annual Doo Dah Parade in the Short North Saturday at 1pm. This is a free event! Visit www.DooDahParade.com for more details.
